Artist Spotlight: Camilla d'Errico

Some artists have a style you recognize the second you see it. Camilla d’Errico is one of them.

Camilla d’Errico is an Italo-Canadian artist, illustrator, painter, comic creator, and author known for her dreamy “Pop Manga” style. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, and later based in British Columbia, she has built a colorful career blending manga influence, pop surrealism, expressive characters, and a deep love of imaginative storytelling.

Her artwork often feels like stepping into a bright little dream. Wide-eyed girls, soft animals, rainbow colors, surreal details, and emotional expressions all come together in a way that feels playful, strange, sweet, and thoughtful at the same time.

Part of what makes d’Errico’s work so appealing is the contrast. Her characters can look delicate and wistful, while the surrounding details burst with color and energy. One painting might feel gentle and quiet. Another might feel wild, funny, or delightfully odd. That balance gives her art a personality all its own.

Her influences include Japanese animation, manga, comics, pop culture, and the visual language of fantasy. Over the years, she has worked across many creative spaces, including fine art, comics, books, coloring books, designer toys, fashion, accessories, and merchandise. Her official biography describes her as a Pop Surrealist painter, artist, author, and comic artist/creator, and her work has been exhibited internationally.

She also studied Illustration and Design at Capilano University’s IDEA School of Design, graduating in 2005. Still, like many artists with a truly distinct voice, her style feels deeply personal. It is polished, recognizable, and completely her own.

I first discovered Camilla d’Errico’s work through Facebook many years ago, and her art immediately stood out. It had the charm of children’s illustration, the emotional pull of comics, and the strange beauty of a daydream that wandered into a candy-colored forest.

For families, young artists, and anyone who loves whimsical illustration, Camilla d’Errico’s work is a wonderful reminder that art does not have to fit neatly into one box. It can be cute and mysterious. Bright and emotional. Silly and sincere. Soft, strange, and unforgettable.
