Our Story
Founded by Philip Graham, the story of Brambletale Press began in the spring of 2025. At the time, his oldest child was learning to read, and he was eager to find a book they could enjoy together, something more engaging than the typical early reader options.
When he asked a local librarian if there was a section dedicated to children’s classic literature, she shook her head. Surprised, he then asked if she knew of any early reader adaptations of classic works. After a moment of thought, she replied, “No, but that’s a wonderful idea!”
Philip had recently reread Moby-Dick, one of his childhood favorites, and felt inspired to adapt it into a short story that young readers could enjoy. As he worked on this adaptation, he became deeply aware of the literacy challenges faced by many children and adults alike. The National Literacy Institute reports that 54% of U.S. adults read below a sixth-grade level, and 64% of fourth graders are not proficient readers. These numbers are sobering, highlighting the urgent need for accessible and inspiring books.
After the birth of his first child, his pediatrician encouraged him to start reading to the newborn as soon as possible. Reading aloud to infants nurtures language development, strengthens bonds, and supports early brain growth. It introduces them to vocabulary, concepts, and the rhythms of language in a joyful, interactive way.
Through Brambletale Press, he hopes to create books that spark a lifelong love of reading and open the doors to timeless stories for readers everywhere.
Thank you for being part of the journey!
